Holiday Veerse Meer Zeeland

Experience the freedom of "Veerse Meer"

In the heart of Zeeland lies the Veerse Meer. Once a turbulent estuary, it is now a water sports paradise for surfers, canoeists, sailors, water skiers, divers and fishermen. Cosy places like Kortgene, Kamperland and Veere are situated by the lake and are definitely worth a visit. In the Veerse Meer countless uninhabited islands are waiting to be discovered. Renting a boat and mooring at these special places is highly recommended. Or rent one of our holiday homes with jetty so you can go out with your own boat. Because of the shallow banks the Veerse Meer is very suitable for families with children. We are happy to share the best tips for a relaxing holiday at the Veerse Meer.

2030 hectares of unspoilt nature

The Veerse Meer offers more than 2030 hectares of unspoilt nature and is one of the best-known areas of Zeeland. In addition to the North Sea and the Oosterschelde estuary, the Veerse Meer is one of the most popular waters among tourists in Zeeland. Not only tourists from our neighbouring countries Belgium and Germany know where to find this area, but also tourists from their own country like to travel to Zeeland.

The Veerse Meer stretches from Vrouwenpolder to Kats. Along the banks of the Veerse Meer you will find various cosy places including; Kamperland, Vrouwenpolder, Veere and Kortgene. The extensive nature reserve De Schotsman also borders on the water of the Veerse Meer.

Veerse Meer; a water sports paradise!

The water sports fanatic believes that the Veerse Meer is a true paradise! All water sports can be practised in this area. These include surfing, canoeing, sailing, water-skiing, diving, fishing, boating and stand-up paddling. The calm water and ever-present wind in Zeeland make this area ideal for a day on the water.

Sailing and boating on the Veerse Meer

Do you like to go out by boat? Then a trip on the Veerse Meer is a must! Go out on the water and sail on the vast lake past the many villages along the shores, where you can easily moor at the jetties in the harbour. Or moor at one of the uninhabited islands and enjoy a relaxing picnic or BBQ in peace and quiet. And when you sail back in the evening, you are sure to be treated to a stunning sunset.

You can choose to take your own boat out on the water or hire a boat from one of the rental companies around the Veerse Meer. From Kamperland, you can do this at Zwemer Boat Rental. Here, you can choose to go out on the water in a sailboat, sloop or dinghy. No license or experience? Then you can also take a sloop or dinghy out on the water! The boat hire staff will be happy to give you some instructions, after which you can go on the water in no time.

Some boating suggestions for a day on the Veerse Meer:

  • Visit one of the many islands in the Veerse Meer for a picnic or bbq;
  • Visit the historic town of Veere, a lovely place for a drink on the waterfront terrace or an artisanal ice cream;
  • Go swimming at sunset;
  • Go to the beach.

Surfing and stand-up paddling

Active water sports enthusiasts can also enjoy the Veerse Meer. Beginners and experienced surfers can visit surf school Veerse Dam, located opposite the beach of Vrouwenpolder, just a 10-minute drive from Kamperland. A team of enthusiastic instructors will be happy to take you out on the water and teach you the tricks of wind and kite surfing. Are you ready for some action? Then book a Catamaran sailing course, a fast and exciting way to sail. Would you rather take it a bit easier? Then choose a course in Stand-Up Paddling, the latest water sports trend where you paddle out onto the water on a board. SUP'ing is not only a whole-body workout, it is also a great way to be active on the water in low winds.

Water skiing

Fanatical water skiers can visit Schotsman Watersport Centre during a holiday at the Veerse Meer. During the summer months, the water-ski track is open daily from 11:00 to 21:00. You can book by the hour, but you can also opt for a discount card so that you can use the track several times during your stay at a reduced rate. Besides the water-ski track, there is also an aqua park where young and old can climb and clamber around in the water. This course is also open daily from 12:30 to 17:30 during the summer months.
